First Impressions: Makeup Revolution Ultra Cream Contour Palette
Is everyone still feeling the contouring trend?
I know I am. Although I am usually a powder kind of gal I thought this month I'd go ahead and buy a cream contour palette. I know a few people that use them and love them however I was always worried about the blending aspect. How will I get it to look natural? Well I'm pleased to say that with the Makeup Revolution ultra cream contour palette I think I've found a blend-able champion.
Please excuse my grubby make-up prints on the photo above - as you can see I just can't seem to keep my hands off it. This is my first time buying a Makeup Revolution palette. Makeup Revolution have been making it big in the blogging community lately so I thought that their cream contour palette would be a good one to start off with.
Like with all Makeup Revolution products the packaging is slick and chic - black and gold. I'm not a fan on the shiny casing on this palette though because it does make it vulnerable to my makeup coated fingertips.
When you open the palette up there are eight different shades inside to help you achieve that chiselled cheekbone look. Along the top row are some lighter shades for brightening, concealing and highlighting. Then the bottom row contains dark shades for sculpting. The consistency of all the shades is pretty much the same. They're very creamy at first however once applied they turn into a much lighter consistency.
To blend the makeup out I use a combination of my beauty blender and Real Techniques buffing brush. To start off the initial blend I go in with a damp beauty blender and lightly dab the products in. Then to give a truly airbrushed finish I blend it all out with a buffing brush. I find this works best for these products on my skin - if I do it any other way my contour just makes my face look dirty (not the look I was going for!).
I must admit I haven't really used any of the lighter shades yet as when I swatched them they don't seem to match my skin tone that well. However I have tried out the highlighter which is the bright white shimmery shade. To be honest I wasn't too hot on it but I think that's mainly because my heart belongs to the Sleek solstice highlighter palette which I can pack on for days.
My favourite contour shades are probably the two darkest ones in the bottom row - they really make my contour a thousands times better than it has ever I been. I don't know if this is because they are so well pigmented or because they have incredible staying power, either way my contour is always on fleek!
