Post Pandemic Travel Dreams
Although many people all over the world are travelling again - I am not. I really enjoy travelling and there isn’t much that I desire more than to pack my bags, hop on a plane and sit on a beach somewhere sipping on a cocktail. However, for me, it’s just not meant to be at the moment due to the global pandemic. It’s not that I don’t want to go - I do. I just want to feel 100% comfortable when I do eventually go and enjoy myself to the fullest.
So whilst I’ve been at home in London I can’t help but dream about some of the world’s most beautiful destinations and when I can finally go and explore them. Most of the places on my list are more like tours and trips I hope I can do one day, not really destinations, but nonetheless they are all dreamy.
Australia and New Zealand tour
I went to Australia for the first time last year as an adult and I absolutely loved it. However I felt that I just didn’t have enough time to explore everything that it had to offer. While I was there I visited many of the biggest tourist attractions in Sydney. I also found lots of lesser known and free things to do there too. However I definitely need to go back and have another taste of the Australian lifestyle - I’d love to travel up to Brisbane and stop off in Melbourne to see some of my family who live there too. While I’m in Australia I may as well hop on over to neighboring New Zealand. For those of you who don’t know, my mother’s side of the family are all from New Zealand. So I feel that at some point I really need to go and explore both the north and south islands to feel closer to my heritage. Also New Zealand is meant to be one of the most beautiful countries in the world with tumbling hills and gorgeous mountain ranges. When I’m there I’d really like to hunt down some of the Lord of the Rings filming locations and maybe even stay in a hobbit hole.
Greek Island hopping
I went to mainland Greece when I was still studying at university. I loved the food, the people and the culture. However after scrolling endlessly through Pinterest and travel accounts on Instagram I am obsessed with the idea of going island hopping in the Aegean sea. I love being out on the ocean and the thought of cruising the crystal clear sea and landing on white sandy beaches feels me with so much joy. I think whilst this kind of trip would be full of adventures there would also be plenty of opportunities to relax and feel all the chill vibes.
Train travel in Canada
Since my late teens I have always been fascinated by holidays that incorporate train travel. I just think it would be really cool to be able to sit back in a cozy cabin of a train whilst stunning scenery floats past. You can do this in so many countries, but for me, I think Canada does this best. Starting in Vancouver and ending up in Banff would be amazing. I’d love to go in the Autumn time so that I can capture all of those aesthetic rain drop covered window snaps looking out onto turquoise lakes surrounded by sky high firs.
Italian living
As someone who is obsessed with food how can I not be obsessed with Italy? In my opinion Italy produces some of the best and tastiest dishes in the entire world. I want to head to some of the biggest foodie hotspots there like Rome, Venice, Sorrento and Milan. But you won’t find me in the most expensive or exclusive restaurants. Give me the hole in the wall bakeries, delis with tiny outdoor patios and cafes that start in an alleyway and spill out into the street. I want to taste authentic Italian food, and from my research the best places to do this are hiding in plain sight.
Japanese culture
Even as a child I have dreamed of exploring Japan. This may or may not be because of my love for anime, adorable Japanese character plushies (anyone else adore Pusheen?) and of course Japanese food like ramen, sushi and curries. Seeing images online of the cherry blossoms blooming makes me want to go during the springtime. I’d love to see them in person surrounding both the urban and more rural regions of Japan. While I’m there I’d also like to get lost in the Japanese capital Tokyo. I’d especially love to visit the Harajuku district to see Japan’s unique takes on fashion, art and desserts.
Are you comfortable enough to travel aboard yet? Maybe you already have. Let me know in the comments where you’ve been or where you plan on going in the post-pandemic future. To be honest, I don’t think we will ever get back to “normal” but I am positive that I will be able to travel as freely as I did once more. Here’s to dreaming of and eventually packing my bags again to explore our beautiful world.
