First Impressions: Morphe Your True Selfie Palette
If there is one thing I love in the world of beauty it’s a versatile palette. I adore it when I can take one palette and create a handful of completely different looks depending on my mood. That’s why for about the last three years my go to palette has always been the Urban Decay X Gwen Stefani - however now I am thinking I have finally found a replacement. Don’t get me wrong, I am still in love with my Urban Decay palette but I am hitting pan on alot of the shades, and as it was a limited edition palette I don’t think I’m going to be able to get my hands on another. Enter Morphe’s True Selfie palette.
I have never owned any beauty products from Morphe (and I call my self a makeup addict?!). However I have heard alot of amazing things about the brand, so when I received this palette as a gift for my birthday I was more than happy to try it out. Like Urban Decay, Morphe is a cruelty-free beauty brand which I am trying to be conscious about when purchasing new beauty products - more on this in another post. From what I’ve heard about Morphe, they are a high end makeup and brush brand with quite a large following. Their products are also known for their high-quality finishes and solid pigmentation - everything I look for in a makeup brand.
Upon opening the palette I found the packaging to be of very high quality, and of course protective to ensure that no shadows break whilst in transit. The palette’s casing - like most these days - is sleek, black and slim. Perfect for leaving out on your dressing table but also compact enough to fit into a makeup bag. There is of course also a large mirror on one side of the palette to apply on the go.
Now on to the important part - the actual eyeshadows. The first thing I noticed is that this palette has a good mix of matte and shimmer shades - a must for an everyday palette. I only think this because pretty much all of my go-to looks contain a combination of mattes and shimmers. Combining the two always gives eyeshadows looks a stunning contrast creating more dimension which is imperative to my makeup routines as I have hooded eyelids.
Strangely the colour choices, whilst completely different at first glance, I think could all go together rather well. I think the most obvious colour combinations are in each row, However you could incorporate the middle row with shades from either the top or bottom row too. Just last night I did a smokey green shadow using the olive green (#before) and the metallic golden lime (after) from the bottom row, then to give the look some depth I darkened it up with a matte brunt brown (#ootd). The finished look was giving me some serious forest fairy vibes - and I am all here for it.
The pigment and staying power of the shadows themselves is pretty amazing too. I would say the boldest and most pigmented shades are definitely the oranges and browns. However when I wore the green shadows on a night out and spirtz them with some Smashbox Photo Finish primer water they stayed solid for a good six hours without sliding or smudging.
Consequently because of their staying power they are pretty tough to remove. I had to double cleanse to get the entire remnants of the shades off with micellar water and a lotion based cleanser. So I think it’s safe to say that as long as you have a good base and primer these shadows should have no problem lasting the entire day - perhaps with a top up or two if you’re planning on having a full face for eight plus hours.
So in short, the Morphe True Selfie palette is a versatile makeup addicts dream with shimmers, mattes and endless combinations to choose from. Like I said, I’ve found my new everyday palette and I can’t wait to create even more looks. I’m in love!
