First Impressions: Urban Decay Wild West Palette Review

It’s no secret that I have always loved Urban Decay. I remember pawing through the Boots catalogue as a teenager and circling some Urban Decay neon coloured eyeliners. I would then spend hours planning out the looks I could create with them on scraps of paper. A few years later my blog was born and I was writing about Urban Decay and broadcasting my love for them to anyone on the internet who would listen. So as you’ve probably guessed, over the years Urban Decay have become such a staple beauty brand in my makeup collection, not only because I am familiar with them as a brand, but also because I have grown to rely on them for my stay-all-day, budge for nobody’s business, holy grail eye makeup products. Their formulas have always been made of the highest quality ingredients whilst still being both vegan and cruelty-free too, which is always a plus in my book.

The range of colours in this palette is vast and most importantly versatile. Ranging from soft matte nudes through to bold blues and shimmering browns. The range of colours in this palette reminds me of the Gwen Stefani palette that Urban Decay brought out many years ago - the colours all seem to sit together well however they are still different enough to create a wide range of looks.

Personally I have already tried a blue smokey eye with glittery shade bud and bold matte shade tex. They blended together effortlessly and it didn’t take much to build up tex in the outer corner of my eyes. As always with any of Urban Decay’s bolder shades it is always best to go in with a lighter hand.

It was recently my birthday and my friends being the angels that they are - know exactly what to get me. You can imagine my squeals of delight when I snatched the parcel from the postman, ripped open the box and found my beautiful new Wild West palette inside. It was love at first sight.

First of all can we please talk about the packaging? As always it was absolutely beautiful - depicting snake skin in iridescent hues paying the perfect tribute to it’s name. Sliding the palette out of the box, the print on the case is exactly the same as the outer cardboard box.

Something I’ve always loved about Urban Decay is the quality of their packaging - the eyeshadow palette cases always feel luxurious and expensive. The hinged lid opens effortlessly and closes with a satisfying soft close snap. Included with the eyeshadows it the usual double ended eyeshadow brush and of course, fixed to the inside of the lid, is a mirror - perfect for retouching eyelids on the go.

All of the colours transfer well using a fluffy eyeshadow brush. The colour pigments are strong and the formula helps the shadows glide on like butter but stick like glue.

Whilst the lightest shade is very pale and doesn’t quite show up in my swatches, I think it will make a great base colour to build upon for those of us with fair skin. The nude tones are perfect for “no makeup”looks and the darker, bolder colours are great for the evening and pairing with some of the shimmery shades for a more glamourous look.

Overall, I would say this palette has massive potential to quickly become my favourite as it offers so many options whilst still including many everyday wearable shades. I cannot wait to try out all of the colours and document some more makeup looks here.
