Why New Year, New Me Isn't Always Good For You

It’s the new year and whilst I am happy to be in 2023, I am not happy about the unnecessary pressure that the new year can bring. For too long we have been bombarded with “new year, new me” rhetoric that is designed to knock our self-esteem in order for us to become vulnerable to whatever it is we are being sold. Be it workout equipment, a diet plan, a self-help book or a training course.

Travel Diaries: Plans for the Summer

Summer is well and truly here. With temperatures rising to over 35 degrees, you can be sure that I am going to make the most of it. I don’t know what it is about the sun being out but it entices and motivates me to make more of my day. So this summer I have a little bucket list of things I want to do and I am determined to complete them all before September ends.

First Impressions: Aveeno Calm and Restore Skincare Range

Skincare has always been an important part of my daily rituals and routines. Over the years I have found what my skin likes and what it doesn’t like. I’ve learnt that my skin can be senstive and dry whilst still having the occassional breakout and oily t-zone. I occasionally suffer from some rednesss from time to time too, particularly around my nose and cheeks. However, as soon as I think I’ve mastered a routine that has my skin looking it’s best, my skin adapts and doesn’t like it anymore. So, especially now that I’m closer to 30 than 21 I’ve taken it upon myself to try out new routines every so often so my skin doesn’t have time to get too used to products.

Over the last few months my writing has felt lost. Well, at least my personal blog writing has. Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to say or string together thoughts in a coherent enough way to make words beautiful and worthwhile. I haven’t felt much like doing that lately, especially on here.

How To Overcome Shyness As An Introvert

Like most people who identify as an “introvert” I have struggled with shyness my whole life. I don’t necessarily see being shy as a negative trait, it’s been part of who I am for a while. January recap

Although I wouldn’t say that I have had a typical January - it’s been pretty goood. For most people January is about resetting, getting a fresh start and working on goals. However, for a while I’ve been treating January like most months - I don’t need to reset, unlearn behaviours, set outlandish goals or put undue pressure on myself. I have been enjoying the slow start to the new year and smelling all of the flowers along the way.

Why "That Girl" Aesthetic Can Be Damaging

January is in full swing and so are the “new year, new me” campaigns. If you know me then you probably already know why I am really against these kind of campaigns. However, I’m not here today to talk about these. I am talking about a new health and wellness mantra filling all our social feeds on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. I am talking about “that girl”.

Van Life: Could It Be For You?**

Chances are you’ve seen van life influencers across social media lately. Some call their way of living “the new rich” and will show videos of themselves pulled up, enjoying themselves in beautiful locations that most people don’t get to spend all too much time in outside of vacations. Woodland, beaches, mountain bases - the list goes on and on. But what is van life and is this a type of lifestyle that could actually suit you?

Travel Diaires: Exploring the Bottalack Mines, Cornwall

The Bottalack mines in Cornwall was one of the most surprising places I had been when I went to Cornwall in autumn late last year. Originally I wanted to go to the mines because they had been featured quite a bit in Poldark, one of my favourite period dramas. So I was only really expecting two mine ruins in the middle of a field. However, like I said I was pleasantly surprised with what we discovered there.
