OOTD: Dark Dreams

For the entirety of 2019 both bohemian and gothic looks have been my aesthetic. In fact, I love them both so much that I have combined them into some sort of hybrid that personified, would be Stevie Nicks and Marilyn Manson’s love child. For those of you who need enlightening I have fondly dubbed my new style as “boho goth”. To be honest I don’t really know if it is even a thing, but Pinterest seems to think so. So basically if you want more bohemian gothic vibes after this post then you need to follow my Pinterest board which is dedicated to this entire aesthetic. So this one is for all of the goths out there who have a wild and free bohemian heart.

This look was built around a fringed shawl that I’ve had in my wardrobe for some years now. Whilst in the beginning of the year it didn’t see much love, from August to now I’ve practically been living it in. I love the fabric - it’s basically a wearable blanket that can envelope you in warmth throughout those chilly summer evenings and brisk autumn winds. The black and grey flower pattern is both whimsical and gloomy which is essential for any boho goth look. Also, the fringed edges look awesome as you spin and dance your way through the day. I don’t know why, but as I’ve gotten older details like fringe are my favourite because when combined with movement it gives off effortless yet wild vibes which are apparently my thing.

Skinny black jeans and classic Doc Martens will always be a combo that is close to my heart. Not just because this was my uniform in my teens but also because now as a fully-formed adult I feel like it’s had a resurgence in fashion and makes me feel like a bad ass boss bitch. Win-win. I’ve had these Docs since I was around twelve and they were my mums before that. In fact - these boots are older than me by about five years. As you can see like a fine wine they sure do age well. My trusty black skinnies are from Berksha but I got them on Asos a few months ago. They’re super flattering and also stretchy enough that I can eat a full three-course dinner. A must if you too are a pasta fiend.

To give myself more of a shape and not look like a sad triangle, I decided to belt my blanket around me. I obviously went with my only belt (seriously I only have this one!). But I really like the western feel it brings to this entire outfit. I’m thinking witchy cowgirl vibes (perhaps the distant cousin of boho goth?). I completed my ensemble with a dark lip, smokey eyes and my Kylie Minogue glasses, because although I am a scary bad-ass goth I can’t actually see.

So is this a look? Let me know in the comments.
